Our Heritage

Starting from the 1800’s, Perseverance Mill was established as a weaving mill in 1866 by our ancestor, John Anderton in Manchester. The mill housed 616 looms and was powered by a horizontal engine.

1898 – c.1932  Sutcliffe of Crumpsall Limited. (Manchester)

“A Good Can Plays a Great Part in the Spinning of Good Yarn”

Over 30 years later, Sutcliffe of Crumpsall Limited was established in 1898. The company invented and patented vulcanised fibre products for spinning cotton, wool and silk. They were contractors to H.M. Government, Admiralty, the War Office, GPO and Principal Railway Companies.

Shrigley Dyers Ltd was founded by Bertram Platts Hancock and was a commission dyer of circular weft knit cellulose fabrics

1970 “- We Live to Dye”

In the 1970’s the Mill capacity was increased to include high temperature dyeing of synthetic circular knit fashion fabrics by second generation John Hancock.

1980 – Ingersley Vale Mill, Bollington, Cheshire

In 1980 Ingersley Vale Mill was acquired to install a new plant of ‘Cold Pad Batch’ dying, to dye high quality cotton Lycra fabrics.

Shrigley dyers had a fleet of vehicles around the UK offering  collection of greige fabrics to be dyed on a fast turnaround service to be delivered to leading garment makers for companies such as Marks and Spencer, Arcadia group as well as the Home of Office and Ministry of Defence. At its peak, the Mill was producing some 500,000 metres a week of dyed fabric and had 140 employees.

1980 – Ingersley Vale Mill, Bollington, Cheshire

In early 2000 the company sadly closed its doors as manufacturing moved offshore to countries such as Morocco, Tunisia and the Far East.

2005 – Global Technical Textiles was Established

The great granddaughter of Sutcliffe of Crumpsall Ltd., Fiona Sutcliffe and Jonathan Hancock of Shrigley Dyers Ltd. founded Global Technical Textiles Limited. Specialising in performance technical fabrics, medical fabrics and flame-retardant workwear fabrics used by leading distributors around the UK, Italy, Brazil and the USA.


Global Technical Textiles Ltd continues to expand its operations to this day.
